Tomorrow – May 28th – the countdown to the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships will reach 1000 days. Italy’s Val di Fiemme gets closer to its third World event, after the previous successful ones held in the alpine valley in 1991 and 2003.
Over the last two years, since Val di Fiemme was selected to host the 2013 FIS Nordic Ski World Championships at the annual congress in Cape Town, the Fiemme 2013 OC, lead by Pietro De Godenz, has got all the construction and restoration projects approved by the international federation. In the next two months the works at the Cross-Country Ski Center in Lago di Tesero and the Ski Jumping Stadium in Predazzo are due to begin, and the first tranche of works, a 2,000 square meters large underground area underneath the cross country stadium, is to be finished by December 8th. It will host all TV production vehicles during the competitions, and it will be used as storage area as well, once the worlds are over.
The Fiemme 2013 OC assured that all preparations for the 2013 world event are on track if not a little bit ahead. The Italian staff was recently congratulated on the work done by FIS General Secretary Sarah Lewis, and many volunteers, who are the real “body and soul” of the Fiemme 2013 team, also started to study and improve their English skills in order to be as much warm and professional as possible during the worlds.
At the 47th International Ski Congress in Antalya (Turkey), scheduled for the beginning of June, sport director Cristina Bellante will meet sport managers for the Cross Country, Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping areas, to discuss new race solutions and the 2013 race calendar, which will be defined after the congress.
Meanwhile the Fiemme 2013 staff started to work on the 2011 Tour the Ski final stage – scheduled on January 8th and 9th – on the hard ‘final climb’ on the Alpe Cermis alpine ski slope.
